30 Day Lolita Challenge – Day 1

30dayloli3

I’ve seen this challenge around the internet for a while, and thought the other day: I would like to give it a go! It’s the perfect opportunity to re-inspire my lolita fashion hobby as I haven’t had the chance to wear it as often as I would like recently.

Additionally! Coming on this 30 day journey with me is one of my good lolita friends Hester! We thought it’s be a lovely idea to do this challenge together to keep each other motivated. I will link to Hester’s answers at the end of each post :)

I’m looking forward to doing this challenge and hope you enjoy it!~

Without further ado, here we go!

Day 1:  10 Things about your lolita bubble.

1. I first purchased a lolita item when I was 20, after years of
admiring pretty girls I saw on the internet. I first saw a
lolita on the livejournal fashion community Fruits. I think
it was Crazysporkiam. I thought she looked amazing, and so
confident. I wanted to be like that.

2. My first lolita pieces were oldschool loli dresses from BTSSB.
Plain dresses without prints. I dressed pretty much like the
kinda style Momoko has in Kamikaze Girls. I was into this
style for about a year. Then I bought a skirt from Angelic
     Pretty. It was Fruits Parlour.

     3. Sweet lolita, and especially Angelic Pretty, quickly became
my obsession by my second year wearing lolita. I liked to dress OTT a lot. Pink, blue and yellow were my favourite outfit colours.

     4. Over the past year I have found myself liking classic lolita
more and more, and feeling uncomfortable in sweet. This
January I sold most of my sweet clothing; keeping some pieces
to use for fairy/pop kei only. I have a small collection of
classic dresses now from Innocent World, Emily Temple Cute,
     and Taobao.

5. I love lolita meet ups as they usually involve tea and cake,
and a museum/gallery visit or crafting day. These cultural
and girly things really appeal to me as they were
already my interests before I got into lolita fashion. Though it's
been a while since I went to a meet up due to my
     location and I miss them.

    6. I met my best friend through lolita fashion. It was one of
those moments where you meet someone and it’s like you have
known them your entire life. Her name is kairi. We met for
the first time on a train to go to an event in London to meet
Misako Aoki. People at the event the same day thought we were
sisters. Within hours we were super close. Kai and I are very
different people but the connection between us works despite
     this. Opposites attract.

     7. My old dream dress in lolita used to be Candy Fairy from
Angelic Pretty in the sax blue x pink colourway. I obtained
it a few years ago. It lasted as something amazing for me for
a few months. Then it was like it had been too hyped and I
lost my enthusiasm for it. I was really sad. It's since
     been sold.

  8. I always always always wear false lashes when I wear lolita.
Having long full doll-like lashes completes the look for me.
It also adds to the feminine ideals of the fashion imo.

9. Loli has also helped my fear of public speaking and being
on stage - through taking part in various fashion shows at
conventions I’ve discovered that being on stage is actually really fun!

     10. Lolita introduced me to the amazingness of bloomers.
They cover your modesty going up stairs. They are super
comfy and make great PJs. In Summer they even make
cute shorts! I own multiple pairs in many different colours.

Slim Jim’s, Valentine’s & Shopping

2013-03-22-15-32-08_deco

Last time I was in London was for the Kyary gig and afterwards I went to Slim Jim’s with Aisha, Kai, D, and Ken. Slim Jim’s is a Whisky Rock’n’roll bar with its main decorative feature being a ceiling full of bras. As you can imagine, we looked a bit out of place considering we had dressed up immensely OTT ‘Japanese Kawaii Fashion' for Kyary. The bouncer on the door at first wouldn’t let us in as he said they do not allow fancy dress! Oooo I felt the burn of that comment. ‘This is just how we dress’ was said and after an awkward pause we were let in XD

Thankfully they had some very yummy cocktails so it was worth going haha!

As the night wore on Kai and I found ourselves in the ladies toilets having immense fun with their giant full length mirror and a posca pen to add to the graffiti all over the walls. We were so engrossed in our new activity that we lost track of time. The guys thought we had gotten lost and sent Aisha to look for us hahaha!!

I wore my Hate Hearts Tshirt by Drop Dead on Valentine’s as it amuses me so to be ironic :’)

D and I had MASSIVE pancakes for food at The Old Dutch in Holborn. I had pear and cinnamon. I am always impressed with their pancakes and this one was no exception!

Later we met up with Kai and Aisha for an evening walk around Central London, vaguely heading towards Covent Garden.

In Covent Garden we found a collection of pretty decorated giant eggs…P1020450

We then came across these giant red metal letters spelling out LOVE. Upon further inspection there were little metal hearts padlocked all over the letters. Each one had a little message written on by a couple or someone wishing for love. Such a lovely thing to see!

Also whilst I was in London it was Pancake Day! We went to a place called The Diner, which is retro American themed and had amazing thick scotch pancakes. Along with endless coffee refills and orange cream soda. Nommm.
My dish was called ‘The Lumberjack Breakfast’.2013-02-12-20-22-16_deco

Much shopping was had on Oxford Street during my visit as well – of course :P

Bedroom Decor Haul

I’m currently in the middle of  redesigning my bedroom in a vintage roses theme, and using three main colours: dusky pink, mint, and cream.

I’ve been buying some pieces over the last few months, and found quite a few bargains! Thought I’d share them with you guys in case you are looking for something similar :)

P1020477
Three canvases that fit my vintage roses theme perfectly! £4 from Ponden Home.

P1020478P1020479

P1020716
Deer canvases, £6 from Asda.

P1020491
Pretty cream leaf-detailing chandelier, £20 in the sale from Homebase. I’m really happy with this!

P1020721
Cream Heart Jewelry Wall Hanger. For the price you’d think this would be small, but it’s surprisingly really big! £6 in the sale from Asda.

P1020739
Medium Storage Boxes. I love the print on them! £4.99 from Store 21.

P1020714
Mint x pink floral polkadot small fabric Boxes Set for my dressing table. From Ebay.

P1020685
Metallic heart box, £2 in the sale from Store 21.

P1020671
Mint vintage letter rack. Won on eBay for £6. (That I’m currently in the process of decoupage-ing, as you can see)

P1020684
Vintage print File Organiser. From Store 21. £2.99.

P1020722

P1020726
Bunting! Fabric one on the left £7 from Asda, plastic one on the right 99p from Homebargains.

P1020730 P1020734
Pomegranate and Acai Tea Lights and Glass Holders. £2.75 for 50 from Asda.

P1020487
Pink metallic rococo-style picture frame, 99p from The Works. They come in various sizes, and I bought the medium (£1.99) and large (2.99) frames too. Super pleased with these!

P1020495
Put a postcard I bought at Manchester Art Gallery in it. It’s of the painting Ophelia by Arthur Hughes, based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Love this painting, it’s so ethereally melancholy.

P1020483P1020481
Plus! some cute stationary. These blank notelet cards are so useful, and I think I may frame some of the rose ones as they match my bedroom theme :) They were ‘buy one get one free’ from The Works. One costs £2.99.
